Kartik as Damodara Month (Krishna’s Month)

Damodara means “One who is bound by the rope around His belly” (dāma = rope, udara = belly). This name comes from the famous pastime where Mother Yashoda tied little Krishna with a rope when He was stealing butter. This leela (pastime) shows Krishna’s sweetness (madhurya) — the Supreme Lord willingly becomes bound by the pure love of His devotee.

In this month, Krishna reveals His heart — that He is conquered not by strength, riches, or rituals, but by simple, pure love. The daily offering of lamps to Krishna represents the light of devotion we keep in our hearts for Him.
